I usually don't ever make it to early shows. It's a fact I deal with. I'm not what you would call a "morning person". Well regardless of how early it was, I couldn't help but fawn over the refined details at J. Crew F/W 2012. They always have a way of creating alluring silhouettes with unique layering and beautiful prints for a chic ready to wear look that's uber fabulous, yet still practical for the every day woman. I love the irrelevant use of textures and colors. I wouldn't think to put them together. But either way, it works AND I like it.

On a second note, I'm dying to snatch up their new "Tillary" tote in canvas stripe for Spring 2012.

Historical Musings at Norisol Ferrari Presentation

Norisol Ferrari showed her latest collection on the second to last day at the tents. I almost missed it due to a wardrobe malfunction/train stall on the way to Lincoln Center. So glad I made it 10 minutes before. Just enough time to collectively photograph as I went through each look, one by one. She dresses for a bold woman, which is so refreshing. You see enough of the frilly mumbo jumbo with all the feminine designers all week long (over half that actually show at tents), it was nice to bring a little edge to the table, while taking you on a time traveling experience through several generations of fashion before us. Her modern interpretations give these timeless eras that sense of wearability to an otherwise outdated form of dressing.. Norisol highlights her pieces with explicit attention to detail, meanwhile carefully executing fantasy like silhouettes you could only dream of in a perfect world.

Another key factor to this was a collaboration with leather designer/blogger, Zana Bayne, of Garbage Dress (who also has done projects with many other NYFW designers this season and in the past). Very subtle, none the less amazing. Your work compliments each other so well! Can't wait to see more in the future<3

Full on Croc-Effect at Walter presentation

During NYFW, I made sure to drop in at the Empire Hotel for the Walter F/W 2012 presentation. Always fabulously clad, I headed to the penthouse glass rooftop for drinks, music, debauchery and a heavy dose of ready to wear with friends. I was pleasantly delighted to see chic, wearable separates ranging from paneled trench coats and simple throw on dresses, to beautiful tote/bowler bags, and a unique art-deco'ish shoe collaboration with United Nude. One trend I saw carried through out the collection? Peeps of croc-embossed leather in black and mocha on everything (which tied the entire collection together)! I had to shoot the impeccable details to reference later.

I could definitely introduce a good amount of these pieces into my personal wardrobe.

I've said it once, i'll say it again..

I've been feeling so color forward with my outfits lately for it being so cold outside. I guess i'm ready for a new season. Spring is around the corner. We got our first taste of it a few days ago with a sunny 60 degrees. It was such a familiar feeling, I can't wait for it to be like that everyday again. I'm getting so excited to accustom my wardrobe back to light fabrics and sandals again! I already can't stop wearing floral prints and rich colors, so it's almost here..

This is my favorite place for downtime. I could sit on the fire escape for hours and just look out at the city. It looks so peaceful from this view.

I wish I would of had my camera at his F/W 2012 show after party at Le Bain. You see the most memorable looks one after another, after another, after another. I noticed a trend of wild hairstyles while I was there, from dreads, to colorful cornrows, to post Andy Warhol hot pink bowl cuts..I had to grab a shot with the man of the hour, Mr. Jeremy himself in a full moccasin look with a bindi look from his collection and Jamie Clayton since we were both adorning bright orange and blue get ups. Check out her transition story in Love Magazine: Issue 5/Androgyny - truly inspiring to the in-between, and an amazing read for everyone.

Fashion isn't just about clothes, it's a lifestyle full of art, emotion, beauty, and perspective.

For those of you who don't live in NYC, take a virtual photo tour with me through the Jeremy Scott pop up shop that opened for a small 2 week period surrounding NYFW featuring some of my favorite archive pieces from the American art-nouveau designer. What attracts me most to his designs is the fact that he still has fun with fashion every season. It never fails. As much as I love high end ready to wear, it's gotten all too serious over the years. Fresh perspectives are definitely in need for the modern society of fashion.

ANYWAYS..

It had the usual boutique feel - plenty of fun clothes, limited edition pieces, and unique merchandising.

But then the unusual (when it came to decorating) - this sweet Superman-esque mural of JS on the wall & a pink light up hanger in the window that immediately made me think of Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman in the scene where she goes ape shit in her apartment with the pink LED gleaming behind her reading "Hell in here".

As I skimmed through the selection with the JS team, I compiled my "top 5 purchase picks" even though I seriously want it all.

I'm gonna start off saying this, the pros and cons of fashion week always seem to outweigh each other. Of course, who doesn't love a new season full of shows, trends, events, and parties? We all do. But the after effect of all the editing of photos, getting posts ready, and putting them up in a timely manner will just make you want to scream on top of keeping up with the rest of fashion month and your everyday life. So sorry for the delay. But better late, then NEVER.

It's been what seems like a full week of Jeremy Scott in my world.

Between attending his 90's macintosh meets crazy emoticon hell with a heavy dose of sparkle show last wednesday, checking out his 2 week NYC pop up shop with all my favorite archive pieces from past collections, and attending the ultra glammy cocktail reception he hosted over the weekend with fashions in full force, Italian beefcakes serving champagne, and amazing music + shopping..

I think i'm all diva'ed out..

One of my favorites of the different looks i've worn this week during NYFW. I've been playing with playful prints and textures this season and it's definitely showing in my wardrobe. This particular outfit features one of my favorite vintage coats with my newest acclaimed high collared shirt from No Relation + a colorful Joe Fresh sweater, red leather pants, and my beloved pony hair Opening Ceremony x Dr. Marten Darcie boots. Adding the charm to my collar gives it an authentic Marni vibe, don't ya think?

You gain some, you lose some..

I had the honor of attending the Prabal Gurung F/W 2012 show over the weekend at the IAC building, and boy was I in for a treat. I've been a huge fan for several seasons now, but this is the first time i've had the chance to see his collection in person! So I jumped on it. There were so many highs for me! I loved the insect jewelry/accessories done by Dana Lorenz of Fenton/Fallon, the collaboration of gold shoes with Nicholas Kirkwood, the trippy digital prints of mushrooms, floor length beaded gowns, blade runner makeup, Balenciage-esque tennis visors,and last but not least his feminine approach to a classic varsity jacket by adding frilly textures that glittered in the light like diamonds. Need I say more? Oooh la la. Does anyone else see a major 90's grunge made glamorous kind of attitude? He is proving that he can make a darker aesthetic look luxurious and feel ethereal. He is establishing his name as a household brand. I hope it's not a temporary setting because he has the potential to be a legend in the making. Stay tuned!

PS: I had that moment in every fashionistas life, where the stakes are raised and you get thrown into the shark pool of editors and the fashion elite. My seat was interestingly placed behind Zoe Saldana & Michelle Harper, and DIRECTLY across from Anna Wintour and her colleague, so I put my camera zoom to good use and got her first reactions after the collection was over with. I managed to speak with her for a moment after it was over to get her thoughts on Prabal + tell her what a great job she is doing in the new year with the magazine. I felt pretty major after that! She's a huge influence in the fashion industry, regardless if you support Vogue or not! It was a 50/50 day. Gained a few shows I'd never seen, but managed to miss my beloved Sally LaPointe's show by about 90 seconds. First time in 4 season of going, and my camera acted up during Alexander Wang! DOUBLE OUCH!

Highlights from Katie Gallagher: Steel structure set up, kind of a post-war romanticist feeling. Layered, stripped skirts. Sheer/pleated backs. Ghastly makeup with heavy eye makeup to darken the mood. Vertical zippers on shearling coats. Full A Line skirts. Really nice collection, I kind of got there towards the end, but still loved what I saw!

I started my week off on Thursday with an early NYFW show for Duckie Browne at Exit Studios. It was a full house anticipating a fresh fall/winter presentation and it was fulfilled with simple takes on comfortable luxury, monochromatic prints, wide legged trousers, and these tiny little fur caps! I was feeling super grunge that day, so I threw on some silver, leather, and distressed boots and it worked it my favor. Love when that happens. Not used to attending menswear shows, but was pleasantly surprised. +++ all those good looking model boys..

I can deal with that.

I was so happy to come home to a major shoe package last week. Inside were my beloved Minimarket Embla boots + Whyred Chelsea wedges (more about those later) that I ordered recently from UO. The chunky heel and rounded toe make for a great on-the-go boot that can be styled up or down, or just out the door. They haven't left my feet for the last few days and are making a lovely spot for themselves in my closet. This makes 2 pairs of Minimarkets now. They are SO comfortable. I definitely recommend them for a chic shoe that doesn't do so much wear and tear to your footsies.

I'm so tired from working all day + had the StyleList blogger dinner party and then a few events to start off #NYFW Fall 2012 collections. The official kick off is tomorrow morning, and i've got a full day of shows. Let the debauchery begin..

I went to the Opening Ceremony warehouse sale a few months back before Christmas and invested in a few signature pieces for an early birthday present to myself. Among the items were this amazing Tron Legacy x OC neoprene high collared coat and these sky high Chloe Sevigny x OC black leather boots. I've always been a fan of their collaborations, but I think the price points are a little outrageous for an average working student trying to compete with the higher end fashion circuits that grace numerous magazines and editors in the industry...especially in this economy. Regardless, the jacket was a must have with the high collar, motorcycle jacket-esque zippers, and that undeniable shad of electric blue. As for the boots, I went back on the last day and got them on double markdown after I let it saturate overnight. Since they were still there, I figured it was meant to be! :)

I tend to easily get buyer's remorse especially when it's a "FINAL SALE" (aka worst words in a fashionisto's vocabulary, hence there isn't any room for indecisiveness. I was just afraid of the height of them since I'm 6'0" without shoes on. But in the end it all worked out perfectly. End result?

This is the Prada SS12 campaign video + photos featuring Natasha Poly, Meghan Collison, Elize Combrez, Ymre Stiekema, Katryn Kruger, and Kati Nescher shot by Steven Meisel. It was set in a 1950's gas station racer roundup featuring all my favorite pieces from the collection ranging from the flame skirts/heels and rose printed varsity jackets, to the car printed coats and die hard crystal accessories. My ongoing love affair with Prada is reaching new lengths. She has changed the direction of her approach over the last few years from something a little less commercial to a little more personal with familiar settings throughout history that were a major influence to her modern interpretations in her collections. Did you get all of that? Just making sure! :)

A plaid day, I'd rather have it that way

I've been referencing a lot of early grunge-esque collections from the likes of Jean Paul Gaultier, Commes des Garcon, and Junya Wantabe lately. So I set off to recreate some of my favorite looks. On my very first stop, I came across this awesome tartan plaid at No Relation vintage in the East Village. It was tucked away behind this huge rack of hideous skirts and I just happened to stumble upon it. I love when that happens. That place has been my go to spot lately for random, off-the-wall findings. Great staples like furs, hats, shoes, and really old shirts + a designer find every once in awhile. Also managed to walk out with a V2 Versace Sport sweater in cobalt blue. They have a huge selection of bitchin' printed button up's from the 60's and 70's for $5 that i've stocked up on.

There is something so romantic about a high collar..I just can't get over it

These were my favorites of the Spring 2012 Haute Couture shows that just ended in Paris last week. I love this season. It's probably my favorite set of shows out of the year because of the levels of intensity that ensues. These collections are so whimsical and the pieces are one of a kind.  These are a handful of collections from the recent Fall/Winter 2012 Menswear shows worldwide. Common interest? All of these are possessing a very androgynous aesthetic for mens fashion. Paris based Ann D & Damir Doma were both huge hits for me. I loved the ombre prints and dip dyed seperates paired with silky blue blazers. And lets just say, i'm head over heels for all of Damir Doma. He just has such a peculiar eye for menswear. His collections drive from so many influences vs. the usual mens 3 piece suit sent copied 100x for a collection. All of these designers are paving the way to universal dressing from redefining the waist, shortening the hems, and skirting to over accessorizing and colorizing. Amazingggggg!

This is what I live for!

Finally broke down and bought the Moschino watch I was saving loose cash for over the last few months! So glad it's finally mine. The red leather and the colorful jewel tone inserts make it a perfect watch for spring. If you read my last post, you know i'm on a red craze lately. It's not stopping anytime soon!

I was originally gonna go for a classic Michael Kors, but then I realized...EVERYONE HAS IT, AND I'M DEFINITELY NOT EVERYONE. So I went for something a little more personal. I think this is pretty dead on for my style! And what fashionisto doesn't love the quirky accessories from Moschino!?

I've recently developed a new liking towards the color red. I have never really been a fan of wearing it, much less owning any of it. But something has changed over the last year or so..I've done a complete 360 and am currently all about it. Not to mention, it's the color of the season. It's all over the runways during SS12 shows and just in time for February 14. Maybe I wont completely rebel on Valentines Day this year. Okay, maybe just a little! ;)

In other news, time to start the official countdown! Fashion week begins in 11 days! And the invites are starting to trickle in! Looking forward to doing coverage at Lincoln Center/Milk Studios. Hugo Boss x Bryan Boy x Crimes of Fashion

I figured I would post a few photos from yesterday featuring my new Hugo Boss sequined tuxedo jacket. It was going to all be together tomorrow, but I just couldn't wait any longer.

Here's the deets..

I'll start off with saying, i'm jaded when it comes to pure luck because lets be honest, I'VE NEVER HAD IT. So come to my surprise when I recently entered a contest on Bryan Boy's blog for a chance to own one of the 250 limited edition fall 2011 HB runway jackets courtesy of Hugo Boss. Sure enough, about a week ago I opened my email to find a message from Miss Boss herself that started with congratulations! I immediately scrolled through the message like 3x. I couldn't believe it. I actually won my first contest. Not just any contest..it wasn't for a gift card or some crappy door prize, but for a priceless piece of fashion to add to my growing inventory (aka closet). Now lets fast forward to today. Picture me glittering all over the Lower East Side in my outrageous day look that I just couldn't get enough of. It was one of "those" moments! This jacket will definitely be a lovely addition to my closet. Thank god this is one point for karma instead of my bank account!

Dreaming of Celine on a winter day

I found this awesome silk tunic recently that got me thinking about the Celine resort collection campaign from last year featuring Daria Werbowy as a super chic surfer girl with a skateboard on the go. It's nice to reference anything regarding warmer weather with it being so cold in January! I don't know how I'd manage without all these layers of fur wraps I've been purchasing lately. I think I've bought 5 in the last few months from random places all over the city. And they make great company for a stroll in Fort Greene park by my new apt. I'm noticing a lot of fuzzy textures circulating through my wardrobe this season, but I'll talk about that in another post..The belt I found randomly from an antique store in the village (*my friends thought it was hideous, but I found something very striking about the shape, so I got it). I tend to ask for someones opinion, and then go with my choice anyways. :)

It's all about miniscule details...

First Snow

First and foremost, I know i've said this so much lately, but i'm sorry for the lack in updates! I'm finally settled and unpacked in my new apt. So i'm trying to get back on my regular schedule.

Anyways,

We finally had our first real dose of winter weather today in NYC. I woke up to 8 inches of snow on the ground and my room freezing! Instead of cooping myself inside all day, I figured i'd go out and enjoy it before this becomes a regular scenario. Lets just say i've became a master of layering over the last 2 years living here, and this is just another example of it. I found this great button up from Wasteland in LA, I love the color combo and it gets more wear then most of my clothes. I always seem to grow really attached to specific items in my closet. I've got a tight grip on this one.

I was on the phone outside my work the other day when a lovely street style photog, Steffen Hedlund, came up and snapped a few photos of my outfit. I must say, it's always refreshing (even when you devote your entire life to fashion and trends) when someone takes time out of their day to come up and tell you they love what you're wearing. Unfortunately, I was in the middle of an important phone conversation so I tried to give a look while multi-tasking. End result? I think my pout came out a little angry, but I'm still loving my all black ensemble w/ a touch of color from the jewel toned fur stole.<--She has quickly became my BFF. And transitions so well from day to night..I've recently been throwing it on over everything. Not to mention it looks like crushed velvet in the sun. *melts*

When East meets West

If you haven't noticed, intricate prints are taking the fashion scene by storm over the last few seasons. After seeing the same black "looks" for a consecutive number of seasons, print finally made it's way back into recent designer collections. 

First it started with showcasing light, easy on the eyes patterns, then quickly moved to the mixing/matching of patterns, and now we're at a full blown head to toe trending moment of prints. I've got to say the latest and greatest creation for me has got to be the Longchamp x Mary Katrantzou duo for Spring 2012. What an ideal artistry team. We all have our reasoning: I'll always appreciate Longchamp for their classic wearable totes and Mary K for her futuristic and funky visions for ready to wear. Together they made a KILLER bag that highly represents both designers perspectives. I love the finished product. Check out the rest of the styles here.

 I'm dreaming up a major look at the moment..Picture me carrying this around the city with a coloful button up shirt, structured hat, and a pair of ivory trousers for Spring. AHEM!

This is definitely going on my wish list for next season!

I'm a little gaga over this editorial for the current January 2012 issue of Dazed & Confused. Talk about a flower fantasy explosion. Just the kind of therapy I need right now with the sub zero temperatures here in NY. This magazine always finds a way to make each and every editorial innovative, giving you a SUPER NATURAL feeling that isn't available for purchase. Thanks to this, I'm now having day dreams of frolicking through Fern Gully wearing all the latest and greatest 3D floral prints and pieces from SS12. So get on my level. 

More importantly, my friend Bradley Callahan from up and coming label B. Calla made the opening page of the spread! They featured his custom made digital print top that is a sight for sore eyes! Keep close tabs on him this year for future endeavors of utter fabulousity. He's quite the character, as are his creations.  feeling. I guess the name says it all.

I scooped all of these up this week during the mad rush of after Christmas sales and I'm so happy with the final results. They're all so wearable in my closet and each have enough unique detail to stand out on their own.

While I was visiting Dallas for Christmas last week, I had a chance to stop by the new Jean Paul Gaultier exhibit that was on display at the Dallas Museum of Art. It featured 5 different themes that represented JPG's particular design aesthetic. There was a lot of focus on sexual identification misplacement and the modern transformation of roles through fashion.

I think my new chunky fuzz ball of a sweater pairs perfectly with these photos...anyways, about those..I picked up these lovely postcards with amazing images of past fashion moments brought to you by Gaultier. I'm saving up to buy the book because it was quite pricy in the gift shop. But it's more then worth it to add to my growing collection of fashionable coffee table reads!

Barney's NY x Gaga Holiday Workshop

Bergdorf Goodman 2011 Holiday Windows

If you read my blog this time last year, you'd know I always take pictures of the holiday set ups. They are my absolute favorite. I love all the ornate details and priceless couture! This years theme was Carnival of Animals. It definitely beats last years, and I didn't think that was possible.

HAPPY 22ND BIRTHDAY TO ME! 

So sorry for the lack of recent updates on here! The last two weeks have been crazy busy with events, holiday parties, birthday celebrations, work, and traveling. But dont worry, I have plenty of fabulous content to post in the next week while i'm home for christmas! In the mean time, I had do a quick post about my lovely travel companion..

I picked up this amazing bag at the Helmut Lang/Theory sample sale over the weekend! The sale had a selection full of chic ready to wear and accessories. This was a mixture of an impulse buy/early birthday present to myself. There were so many great features about it that I couldn't pass it up. 

First off, I love the shape. It reminds me of the old-fashioned doctors bag, but also a little reminiscent of the Celine tote that i've been lusting over for the last 2 seasons. The zipper detail and adjustable strap are also major pluses! Not to mention it's made of calfskin, so the texture is soft to the touch. The dilemma was that it also came in a camel color and I was really torn..but after careful examination of both, I ended up with the black one. That was a NO BRAINER. It's obviously easier to pair and could be more of an every day go-to bag!

(PS: I've recently decided to stop being such an obsessive fashion whore and have started to focus on purchasing timeless classics that will actually circulate within my wardrobe instead of being irrelevant in a year or two.)

Next on my list? 

I'm in the market for a nice watch!

 I used to never leave the house without one..and now I never wear them because i've retired all my old favorites.

It's when I pull my top ten favorite looks out of a handful of collections that I actually realize how versatile my personal taste is for fashion. When it comes down to what I like and what I don't like, it's not about a specific style that I respond to, but more of a certain look that is envisioned and perfectly executed in my eyes. For example from the selections above, I'm a huge fan of Helmut Lang for the futuristic vision and asymmetrical almost fantasy-like cuts, but at the same time I love Jason Wu and Thakoon for their feminine approaches to indentifying with a modern woman of today. The designers are polar opposites, but I love both for their unique efforts with fashion. The evolution of ready to wear is finally happening. Fashion is becoming more socially accepted and understood as a creative process and not just a grueling morning routine. With all unique designers that are popping up every season, there is a little something for everyone. Anyways..on to the photos. There is no particular order of favortism...they are all great. I couldn't decide.

Uncle Karl took a spiritual journey within his mind to the depths of India for the core inspiration of his pre-fall collection for Chanel. He's doing great this year with an epic SS12 show, followed by a strong Resort, and now this..I can't wait for FW12. I always love the slow introduction to the A/W seasons with Pre-Fall, but usually don't pay much attention to it unless it really strikes me personally. Being as that i'm a huge fan of the ultimate luxury that Chanel embodies regardless of season or concepts + the fact that I recently have been referencing photos of Indian royalty with all of their unique jewelry adornments and physical religious rituals equalled me literally salivating over style.com at 2am going through each look. Lagerfeld stated after the show, "It's much more inspiring not to go to places than to go".

Why would you need to go after seeing the dome of the Grand Palais in Paris magically transform into the last days of Raj? Lets remember, he never forgets the details. Chanel always brings a full package with every collection. It's about more then just the clothes, it's the setting they're presented in that really makes you love it. Well this particular scene was decked with tables filled to the brim with tiers of fruits and flowers, dimly lit crystal embossed candles, and old world silver china which made you feel like you were eating in a massive dining room in the Taj Majal, rather then attending a fashion presentation.

What more to say then the clothes were extremely beautiful...I must admit, i'm not a huge fan of tweed, but he always designs his signature pieces so eloquently, who couldn't love them? Bringing back all the classics like the cap toe boots, tweed suits, leather chain link purses, peplum jackets, and rich fabrics which have been reinvented by the historical musings of India in a French chic attitude. The accessories inspired by hindu princesses were a huge asset to the collection, and really set Chanel ahead of the game for this upcoming 2012 season.

I'm so glad it's finally cold enough to bring out this little number. The bright red shade is great for this time of year. Reminds me of being warm (shrugs) when the wind is about to blow me over. I fell in love with all the focal points in the middle of the jacket. The extra flap that folds over the buttons. The side zipper. The extended collar. All the extra bells & whistles turn this ordinary coat into a high end ready to wear piece. It lays so nicely on my body giving me a desirable shape for fall. You always want to have a strong silhouette. It can be hard to look good these days with the current winter provisions. Sometimes you have to wear a million layers to stay comfortable, but most people look the exact opposite.

Apparently H&M wastes no time with keeping the fashion ball rolling. They've just announced this morning their next designer collaboration for the Spring 2012 season will be Marni! I'm so excited! I feel like this is going to start being a repeat in my life...getting excited for collaborations. Some of my favorite designers have joined the forces of contributing to mass retailers on a high end luxury scale. For those who weren't brave enough to try the bold Versace x H&M prints, you're in luck next season. Not only is Marni realistically wearable compared to many other ready to wear brands, but this will be your only chance to ever get your hands on it without paying an arm and a leg, literally. With no mid range sister label from Marni offering the same design qualities for a more affordable price point, you'll just have to wait for this experience! Their vision will focus deeply into the history of the label and reinvent the classic repertoire of the dream Marni gal! 

So excited for details to further,  
I know the prints are gonna be UH-MAZING.

The perfect shrunken sweater

Came home to this lovely package waiting at my door from up & coming LA based label, Lamb + Flag! Inside was an amazing shrunken knit sweater that is the perfect length for layering this fall. Another great aspect of it is the color, which CAN'T be beat. It's like a pumpkin-ish burnt orange and pairs great with black and many different shades of brown! I'm excited to experiment more with it in upcoming looks. It's getting chilly in NYC, so I couldn't think of a better time to start stocking up on key sweaters for this season!

Versace x H&M private pre shopping event

I attended the Versace x H&M private pre shopping event at the 5th avenue location last night with a friend for fabulous clothes, fashion faces, and cocktails + hors d'oeuvres GALORE! H&M really goes above and beyond to throw the kick off parties for the celebrated collaborations. It was a five star extravaganza by 7:30pm with all the perfect surroundings. I had such a great time. I'm also glad I was able to beat the heat of the lines and shop in a stress free setting with free flowing champagne and bumpin' music! I wish I would of taken more pictures of the yummy gourmet snacks and drinks that were going back and forth through the crowds all evening. It was ALL about presentation! But I was too busy shopping the collection!! It was a packed party for sure!

By the time we left at 10:30 pm-ish, there were already over 150 people waiting in line to get in this morning around 7:00am!!!! that's over 10 hours of waiting and it's 29 degrees outside! SO CRAZY. I guess some really prove their loyalty to the brand OR is this another Missoni x Target Long Island housewife situation where they buy up all the merch just to RE-hawk it on ebay and other sites! UGH they ruin the fun for true fashionistas!

On to what I bought:

First off, sorry for the sloppy photos, I wanted to get them up ASAP before the downpour of VxHM comes rolling in later today and tomorrow. But anyways, I contemplated getting everything I wanted, but then I chose not to go OVERBOARD like some people buying 2 of every piece. I wanted to choose a few selections that really represented the true symbolism of my favorite gaudy Italian label because I know you'll see it all over the streets in a week. So I went for the risky pieces. And remember! It's all about HOW YOU WEAR IT.

Individuality WORKS.

I went for bold prints, bright colors, and the overall flamboyance of Versace with a Miami Vice twist...

GET ALL OF THAT?

I'm in love with my pieces that I got, especially the skirt. It's a perfect representation of Gianni Versace circa late 1980's when his archives truly came alive! Who knows I might go back for some of the low key accessories and the amazing japanese printed denim jacket that NOBODY seemed to be interested in last night. CRAZY PEOPLE.

As for the shoppers who are braving the madness this morning nationwide, and by my watch should be getting in any minute now since it's almost 8am here in NYC. I have one little tip..

MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU.

Collaboration shopping is complete madness and can be messy. Be prepared when you go in! Know what you want and don't hesitate buying something now. You can suffer from buyer's remorse later! Good luck!

I found this great collared shirt last weekend during brunch in St Marks at this hole in the wall vintage store for 5 DOLLARS. Say it with me now... only 5 dollars? That's less then a deli sandwich or a pack of cigarettes, and it will definitely outlast both items! But it's a definite showstopper with the vintage print and vibrant colors. It's always a breath of fresh air when you find a statement piece to add to your wardrobe when you weren't even searching. IT FOUND YOU, so it was obviously meant to be. I immediately thought of the Jil Sander SS11 vibe with florals.

Off to the pre Versace x H&M event they're having tonight before it launches in the US tomorrow.

Erotic Modesty

I've recently started working at a great womenswear boutique in the Meatpacking district called Rubin & Chapelle. Let's just say i'm a little obsessed with the impressive techniques that make R+C stand apart from other up and coming brands, especially from a metropolitan as large as NYC with many emerging, talented designers. Simple cuts, luxurious silks, and perfect execution are a few of the extraordianary qualities you'll find within our shop, designed by AnnaBelle Seldorf (also known for designing Neue gallery, many notable residents in NY, and Anna Wintour's summer home). The free standing store is an old meat locker space turned boutique with concrete walls and exposed ceilings. Her choice of minimal architecture and a unique sense of character off sets the simplistic beauty of the clothes for an overall invigorating shopping experience. I took a photo of myself wearing one of my favorite organza/silk tunics that are individually hand-dyed from the SS12' collection titled "Erotic Modesty" that will debut this spring.

Yowza! What a week it's been. The weather has been a god send here in NYC. Usually around this time, it's already frigid and i'm in need of warm drinks constantly to keep my body from falling into a state of hypothermia due to my Texas roots! :P But luckily, we've had spring-like weather all week long, so i'm enjoying it before I'm stuck inside for the next 4 months hibernating during the cold winters here. And to add to that, i'm ready to bundle up in chunky knits and long trousers for the rest of the season. I'm pretty much over my summer wardrobe until next year.

Anyways, I spent the entire day roaming around Brooklyn and ended my afternoon in Central Park. The trees are finally changing colors and shedding leaves, which are forming massive piles of colorful foliage all over the place. I love it. This is definitely my favorite time of year on the east coast. Next up, Thanksgiving. And my birthday next month! Sagittarius' are on the verge of being in full effect!

What are your thoughts on the new Versace x H&M fashion film directed by Donatella Versace? It's the latest and greatest sneak peak into the flamboyant fashionable label's up and coming collaboration. It just recently surfaced and in my opinion is killing it with the model selection! It's featuring 2 top model it girl's of the moment: Daphne Groeneveld + Lindsey Wixson. It seems like they are portraying extremely chic marionette life size dolls dipped head to toe in the house archives while being thrown around the Versace palace under the control of Donatella. Kind of devious. Kind of amazing. Kind of Versace. No surprise coming from the gaudy fantasies of one of my favorite Italian labels. The private launch party was hosted last night at Pier 57 in Chelsea with a full runway show and performances by Nicki Minaj & Prince among a crowd of the fashion elite. I'm counting down the days, minutes, and hours to get my hands on a few hot ticket items which comes out worldwide November 17. Which store will you be hitting up? I'll be your teenage dream, tonight

Here's a quick look at the scene last night in the underground dungeon at Gallery Bar! After plans were changed a million and one times, I ended up at the Mark Ronson x Milk Studios halloween party at the Dream Hotel in the Meatpacking. It was the usual crowd of fashionistas, models, randoms, and plenty of party goer's. I honestly love Halloween. It was so fun seeing everyone dressed up in different costumes + I had too much fun trying to figure out what half the people were portraying! I will say I was so happy to finally meet Andrej Pejic in person. He is such an inspiration to the future of fashion and in my own personal androgynous movement. He's a beautiful creature inside and out. Anyways, back to what I wore..Teenage Dream by Katy Perry randomly came on my music shuffle while I was trying to get ready and then it clicked! I was gonna be the ideal "teen dream" chic that was in all the movies when you were younger. I went with a Tom Cruise feel in the white button up, but added a varsity jacket, hot red lips, and shorts...25 minutes later I was the total dreamboat waiting on the sidelines for my man to score a winning touchdown while wearing his  letterman jacket!  A total Betty! Funny, eh?

At least some people totally got it! Love being spontaneous

In spirit of the spooky holiday, I'm revisiting one of my favorite eerie editorials from Harper's Bazaar a few years back right before the MOMA released an amazing exhibition on the works of  the legendary, Tim Burton! In return, he recapped his favorite dark & devious delights from the fashionable runways in Europe. The result? A super luxe editorial featuring some of the most sought after couture pieces from the likes of Margiela, McQueen, Ralph Lauren, Givenchy, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Nina Ricci! The black feathered McQueen dress, Ricci heel-less shoes, and creme Ralph Lauren cape/corpse bride gown are just a few of my picks. Those are on my "I GUESS I'LL BE DREAMING FOREVER" wish list for my closet and will be for quite some time.

To be honest, I can't believe it's already Halloween again. This time last year, I was in LA packing up to move to NYC, but found time out of all the moving to dress up like a crazy 90's raver barbie and prowl the streets of WeHo in my brightly, concocted outfit complete with platform boots and an unhealthy amount of glitter. It feels more like December 31, rather then October 31 with all the snow NYC got over the weekend. I'm glad it cleared up by today and i'm happy to report it's sunny out! I unfortunately skipped out on the annual V Magazine Halloween party last night so I could rest up for today's festivities. Planning on going to the parade in the village with friends this evening and eventually ending up at Dream Hotel to dance the night away with all the ghouls and goddesses! As per usual, i'm throwing a costume together last minute, so we will see what I come up with..

Liquid & Leather

In love with these Betsey Johnson irridescent liquid leggings I found recently. I don't usually ever wear things from her because it's the complete polar opposite of my taste. These are a neutral piece and a nice addition to my legging obsession. They remind me alot of the Christopher Kane liquid clutches! I find them easy to wear and the color is so on point. Working a lot lately, but trying to get more styling work. I've got so many photos to edit and post. Look forward to many outfit posts in the future. I enjoy covering various topics that I love on here, but seeing my personal style is like a key into the world that I live in daily, which is what I want to publish! Fashion is more then just an option, it's a lifestyle.

Halloween is coming up after the weekend! And I have no idea what i'm wearing. I'll probably piece it together last minute like always, but that makes it more spontaneous for me. My 90's raver barbie look last year was pretty epic! Going to the Paper Magazine party tonight..i'm sure the fashionable ghouls will be out early.

This is the perfect time of year for a fabulous silhouette to really make a statement when you're out and about (wherever you are). More importantly, if you're an evolving fashionista searching for your latest fix, look no further then Philomena Kwok. Based out of Sydney, I met her during fashion week at the annual FashionIndie shindig, and she introduced me to the most amazing collection of one of a kind linear head pieces that will add an extra ooh la la to any great outfit. The versatility of each handcrafted piece is phenomenal. To summarize a bit, the shapes are quirky, but powerful for many different types of women. It's perfect for a city stroll or a night out on the town. Dressed up or dressed down..It's an up and coming young brand with plenty of potential to break the folds of the industry. Can't wait to see whats in the future for her as an artist. For more timeless creations, check out her website. It's an honor for me to highlight underground creators in the industry. The leaders are inspiration to their future followers. From there, let the rest fall into place. And lastly, never forget your roots, for they are what direct the path of your destiny.

Always remember: Fame, notoriety, and recognition aren't everything..you must struggle first to make it through the tricky game of life. The best comes last with hard work and ambition.

It's finally here. Versace x H&M released photos earlier this week regarding the new collection set to hit stores worldwide on November 17. I'm soooooooo excited for the new collaboration!!! Donatella took inspiration from many of the references and patterns from the Versace home archives over the last 30 years.The outcome? Funky Japanese influential prints, 70's glam, polished rocker chic, and the eternal gaudy, posh Versace appeal. I've always appreciated the unique and flamboyant image of the Italian fashion house. Get ready for ultimate bomshell luxury on a mass retailed scale. I'm wondering how long the lines will be? Will they top Lanvin x H&M last year? The day is almost here. I wish the late Gianni V was here to see the expansion of Versace as a multi faced label.

Florence Welch from rising band Florence + The Machines gets really artsy for the cover of Interview Magazine for October. She looks simply stunning in sophisticated numbers featuring many patterns, sequins, and leather for the fall editorial. I have always loved her style, and seeing her grow over the last 2 years has been awesome! She is all over the fashion world right now..Most recently being the muse of the latest collection from Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel SS12, and likewise for Frida Giannini for Gucci. Always rocking those waspy red locks that I die for in her red carpet looks. I guess the dog days aren't over..

I didn't do much coverage of all the international fashion weeks this season due to many other projects I've been working on, but I figured I would summarize one of my favorite shows of the season. It's no surprise that I was head over heels for Sarah Burton's new collection for Alexander McQueen. The beauty is beyond words. Every season, the brand redefines art through emotion, history, and inspiration, while paving the pathway for future designers. I'm eager to see how Burton's contribution to the progression of McQueen will pan out over time. Over the next few years, will she influence a new generation of fashion? I'm sticking around to find out. I hope to attend one of the future collections. It would be a dream, to say the least.

First and foremost, sorry for the slow update over the past few weeks, I've been super busy lately and it's not slowing down anytime soon! :)

Anyways, I went crazy at the Alexander Wang sample sale before fashion week. I was loving all the striped shirts that were perfect for layering in the fall...so I had to stock up. This cream duo is my favorite, especially for a quick stroll through Thompkins Square Park on a nice day. I wish I could of prepared a little better financially for the sale though. They had so many of most sough after luxury runway pieces for only a few hundred dollars and I would have loved to have gotten my hands on them. Oh well, next time! Designer sales are definitely not a foreign word in NYC and there are so many coming up. My next big venture is Versace for H&M in November! It's gonna be insane! In this case, believe the hype!

It's a little late in the year for me to become obsessed with this simple denim vest all over again. But regardless of the weather, it's happening. Luckily it's been pretty warm still down here in Texas. I paired it with my Opening Ceremony x Dr. Marten Darcie's & printed Missoni socks for a total 90's dream look. I'd say this lonely little alley is a perfect backdrop for my disheveled ensemble. Anyways, I've definitely enjoyed my stay in Texas, but now it's back to reality in NYC tomorrow morning. Fall is finally starting.(sigh of relief) Ready to start pulling out my favorite winter coats any day now.

I arrived in Dallas yesterday morning to visit family/friends + work on a few projects. It's nice to be back in the South. The weather has finally cooled down and it's quite pleasant out. I definitely enjoy this time of year anywhere in the states. Granted when I book a last minute flight, there is ALWAYS a pesky layover in some nowhere town in the MidWest. I'd never been to Milwaukee, or Wisconsin for that matter. But after taking these photos of the sun rising over the Great Lakes from my seat on the plane, I want to go back SO bad. It looks so serene and beautiful! It was one of those moments when I was glad my camera was easily reachable! Caught the photo at just the right moment with a few outtakes in the editing process! ;)

It's time for a little Southern revival and lots of sweet tea while i'm home!

Back in NY in a few weeks, moving into a new place, and beginning the next chapter of my life.

Canal St

I went to the open markets up and down Canal Street the other day and enjoyed wearing my trusty knit out on the town for the first time this year. The weather is cooling down in NY and i'm so excited to start pulling out some of my favorite sweaters for this earl stint of fall weather we're currently having. Usually by October i'm living in cashmere every day, and it's no different this time. Nothing beats a perfect go to piece.

This reminds me...it's time to start coat/trouser shopping...

Feast of San Gennaro

It's definitely that time of year again. I always get so excited for the week after the spring collections every September in NYC. If you're a New Yorker, i'm obviously hinting at the 85th annual Feast of San Gennaro that took place in Little Italy over the last 10 days, and my stomach is still currently recovering.. On the agenda? Traditional Italian food, wine, art, culture, religion...oh and more cuisine to be exact! It's always a great time with friends. And this year was very special embarking the eighty fifth year of the festival. I was sure to get a piece of the HUGE anniversary cake they were celebrating with. Also, if you're looking for a "guido" ladies, you'll be sure to find one here. Of course I witnessed all the usual stereotypes while trotting booth to booth in the streets: your typical Italiano, a crime family, an extremely fat father canoodling pizza & pasta, the Fabio, the old babushka's in head scarfs, and so on. I could keep going forever! Therefore, I'm not sure which is better..the food or the sights? :P So much free entertainment laughing at the ironic situations in life while being surrounded with anything and everything great about Italy.

So for my favorite hole-in-the-wall lasagna, a scoop of gelato, and fresh zappole & canoli..

I'll be waiting!

Just recently got the Dr. Marten x Opening Ceremony printed pony hair boots WAY on sale, and I can't take my eyes off of them. I haven't worn them out yet, but i've definitely done my share of walking around my apt in them planning a future look. The heel is the perfect height to add an extra oomph to any outfit you're wearing. And the white/black print is a great contrast to mix with some of my other fall pairings. Now just waiting for the weather to even out a bit more and i'll take these baby's out on the town.

I like them so much, I may get the other pair in snakeskin print as well!

No place like home

It's officially a week after NYFW came to an end here in the big apple, and i've been in bed sick ever since. I guess all that running around between shows and events wore my body down to the point of getting the flu. UGH! But i'm finally back to myself and am prepping for what the next few months is holding for me. Lots of upcoming projects, traveling, work, etc. I can't wait to share it with you. I've been spending as much time outside as possible while the weather still permits. I love watching the sunset on my roof with good friends. These are the memories i'll hold on to forever. I'll miss this view when I move into my new apt in the next few weeks!

Partying with POPluxe

My fabulous friend Richie Rich from Heatherette launched his new line, PopLuxe with Ross Higgins at LAVO club in Uptown to close fashion week on Tuesday. It was also a proud moment for 2 of my girlfriends walking the show. It's nice to get away from the traditional NYFW festivities and prepare for glitter, glam, and fun from the boys who do it best. If there is such thing as a warrior diva, that would have been the theme. Richie is always known for having celebrities walk in his show, and this time it was Ice T's wife, Coco. She was beyond hilarious, I loved her and her HUGE boobs, to say the least..I caught up with Kirstie Alley who was sitting near me front row and had to get her thoughts on the show + the gossip on her recent weight loss. She looked stunning in a size 4, which is a huge change from her role on "Fat Actress".

All in all, it was a great night with friends.

SOPHIE THEALLET SS12

Attended Sophia Theallet SS12 show at Milk yesterday. Even though my style is urban and edgy, I can always appreciate the looks I could never pull off myself. One being feminine numbers and chic, soft silhouettes. She really knows how to dress a woman. When I think of her client, i'd imagine a poised, elegant mother of 3 on the UES of Manhattan pushing a baby bjorn in pumps.. Enough said. After reviewing many of the collections this fashion week, it looks like color blocking is here to stay for another year. It's a great trend, but will it actually stay fresh or burn out? I'm seeing mass retailers producing bold, colorful solids by the thousands everywhere I go. Eesh. Leave it one of them to ruin a good thing. But i'll take a full printed skirt any day. Lets try a new technique. Instead of color blocking, i'm all about mismatching prints.

It may be distracting when focusing on an outfit with 4 patterns,

but it's fun and fabulous if done right!

Viva La Missoni part 2

If you keep up with my blog, then you obviously read about my huge excitement for the new Missoni x Target collection to come out. I've always loved Margherita's wild, bold prints on EVERYTHING. And finally she designs something a little more affordable and in my price range. Perfect match made in heaven. Well today was finally the day. It was stocked in stores nationwide and will be till October 22. I got up super early and headed to the Brooklyn location. By 9am everything was gone, and it was an episode of Stepford Wives waiting in line. These Long Island women were getting malicious for Missoni. I guess that's cute. They were all sold out of everything but these solid brown signature print, so I had to have something. But then, my mother came to the rescue. She got up early and went for me in Texas (with my hopes of NOBODY in Texas knowing or caring about the collaboration). We were shopping via picture text since she's across country and i'm in an out of fashion shows all week. It was definitely cute. She got me every piece I wanted + the cute comforter for my newish apt when I get it. Can't for my new pieces to arrive so I can wear them. The anticipation is wearing me down. LOL I'm officially ready for fall.

NY based jewelry designer, Erickson Beamon turned Milk Studios into a tropical oasis for the Spring 2012 collection earlier this week. I'm living for all the huge necklaces with chunky jewels! Can you say statement piece? The visual concept for the show focused on showcasing many one of a kind accessories on a mannequin at once, but the spec is built completely out of jewels and random items as well. They come together to create these quirk doll like figures. Definitely an innovative touch! FABULOUS is the only description in my thought process right now. Talk about opulence...

Katie Gallagher SS12

The Katie Gallagher presentation last night at Milk exceeded my expectations by far. I have never attended one of her collections, but was excited from press junkets + editorial i'd seen in the past featuring her work. Her inspiration came from the sanguine blood flowing every second beneath the exterior of our skin and how it's hidden from the outside world never to be seen. It all came to life seeing the deep reds against the black silhouettes. What really popped was when you look at all the un-even textured pieces combined to create each look. It fit together like one huge brain teasing puzzle, but none the less beautiful! And i'm loving those "rounded asian flip flop-looking wedges". That's about as easy as I can explain it to myself. Such a great presentation for next summer! I can't wait to become a regular season go'er to her shows. She is definitely a deconstructed pattern-making genius!

Asher Levine SS12

Attended the Asher Levine show last night with a few good friends of mine. A is such a sweetheart, and my girl Lazia was producing the show, so I couldn't miss it! There was a reception beforehand hosted by Belvedere with plenty of notable industry peeps + bloggers (Katelovesme, GarbageDress, Vogue Japan, etc). Highlight of the entire presentation was couture debutante, Andre J, running up to me yelling "QUEEN, HAY GIRRRRRRL!" and then realizing I wasn't his friend he was looking for. Such a funny moment between a fellow genderless fashion boo and a bearded lady in a sheer, sequin gown.. I said "WERQ it out anyway, honey!" haha

There were so many great looking people in the rows and distinctive pieces walking down the runway. I was surprised to see the direction he went with his spring show. There were all these weird, yet amazing handcrafted accessories that resembled the texture of the ball that Bowser used to throw at enemies in Super Mario Bros! x)

I'm glad to see menswear designers trying to bring that extra flair for upcoming seasons. I'm sick of suits and ties! Dare to be different!

Somebody pinch me so I wake up! Oh wait, this isn't a dream. This is most definitely REALITY. For once, I can easily say "Thank god I wasn't dreaming!" Every season I look forward to what amazing piece i'm going to lay my eyes on Sally LaPointe. She is one of my favorite young, talented designers by far and every season her collection evolves into something even more beautiful. Her pieces embody a strong, statuesque woman breaking the folds of fashion with innovative and consistent looks that do the talking for her! ;) Sally is definitely a crowd pleaser. She doesn't just give you a good collection. She thinks about the music, the lighting, the mood, the physical setting, etc. For the end result, all of it comes together to present a story to you. It's an emotional love affair through clothing. And thats what I love most about her brand.

Stay to your true colors, they'll take you far!

FNO-NYC 090811

As you can see, last night was a crazy dose of fashion, fun, and everything fabulous! FNO is always loco, but they really did it up this year, with so many amazing performances and appearances by the fashionably elite, lots of champagne and goodies, and plenty of limited edition deals. I was a bit colorful to say the least. I paired my amazing Miu Miu pants with a BCBG feathered vest over a vintage button up. Add a few bright accessories and my Marc Jacobs airliner clutch, and that was my look! Definitely a change from my muted colorless look last FNO, what a year does to the fashion brain.. NYC really comes alive during this time of year. The night started out easy at VPL, the entire team looked amazing. It's not a brand I knew too much about, but i'm definitely interested in now. We quickly moved on to all the parties along Grand/Mercer St! (Dirty Durty @ Ash, Alexander Wang, Tim Hamilton @ IF, Kate Spade, Mulberry, Vivienne Tam, Howard Mercer block party, Opening Ceremony carnavale). I met so many awesome people! Especially this 2 woman duo at IF from the blog, IDIOSYNCRATIC FASHIONISTAS. They prove you can be chic and daring at any age! Loved them! There were cameras and people everywhere in the streets. Did a few random interviews with a few bloggers + The Daily front row and got interviewed for a documentary about FNO. Lol maybe i'll see it randomly in the future. Anyways, then we headed over to Patricia Field's/Vezelka. Of course she'd never throw a party without tons of sequins and glitter. I finally got to mingle with this amazing woman. She's so lively and funny in person, I loved it. And her smiley face doo rag - NEED. I always love going to her events as well because it's always a promising crowd of polysexual partiers and fashion mavens. From there it was on to a few more places and then we ended at the Creem Magazine party at Thompson hotel. Ran into so many friends I haven't seen in forever. From there, lets say there was a rooftop + New York style pizza + good jams, and the rest is history!

(Still sad I never made it to Oak + Teen Vogue block party! :/)

PS: Still couldn't handle being 2 feet away from the "Back to the Future" car last night in front of Nike. I LOVEDDDDDDD that movie when I was younger! And kudos to the tricked out Rag & Bone gun-metal Range Rover! Fierce!

Fashion week starts tomorrow and there has been a recent torrential downpour on NYC. It's been a week since "IRENE" came and past here, but we're still getting the after effect with lots of rain and clouds. But i'm loving this early look at fall. It's so nice out! I LOVE my rooftop right around sunset, our skyline is AMAZING! The weather has been great, I just hope it clears up in time for Fashion Night Out tomorrow! The madness of fashion week for the SS12' collections are finally here!

I'm having this weird draw towards light, almost turquoise blue lately. I can't seem to put this Balenciaga Area Giant Compagnon wallet down. It has so many compartments and pockets. It's very convenient when you're on the go and don't want to trudge around the city with a huge bag all day. As for the hat, I found it at the new Beacon's Closet that opened yesterday (which by the way had an amazing selection that i'm running back for later today; I'm giving myself 24 hours to think about a pair of Ferragamo suede boots and a neon yellow Versace blazer I found as well) near Union Square. And to say the least, i'm in L O V E. The blue trim around the edges really makes it pop. That makes for a chic war hat if I've ever seen one. After I bought it I realized there was paper stuffed on the inside of the brim that was from a Berlin based newspaper from the late 70's! So maybe it is a German authentic military cap!
